D&AD PRESIDENTS LECTURE: PECHA KUCHA
Last night the Design studio plus Stevie Brewu of ECITB were lucky enough to get tickets for D&AD’s president lecture.
Pecha Kucha, meaning ‘chit-chat’ in Japanese, is a fast and furious way of presenting, as each speaker is limited to up to 20 powerpoint slides, and each slide is only displayed for 20 seconds before the next one replaces it.
Speakers include members of design studio Bibliotheque, branding experts SomeOne, cultural curators It’s Nice That, illustrator and animator Mr Bingo, digital maestro Simon Waterfall, Design icon Neville Brody, Interaction doyen Andy Cameron, advertising hero Graham Fink, creative entrepreneur Kate Moross and members of the multidisciplinary Tomato Design Collective.
A good night was had by all and we are looking forward to the next lectures.

SCOOPS BRANDING
Working with the client and their rough scribbles we set about developing a brand for a new ice cream parlour in the affluent town of Berkhamsted. We created a large colour palette to demonstrate the variety of flavours available. The overall look of the brand had to be bright and enticing to children and mothers. The typography is elegant, simple and nods towards English heritage. On a tight budget and timescale we created stationery, loyalty cards and signage all produced and installed by us.

V&A BRAND LICENSING WEBSITE
The V&A has developed an international licensing programme across a broad range of products. To assist with consumers and licensing partners the V&A licensing department needed a website to help communicate new products, ideas, news and any other licensing information.
The V&A Commissioned The Creative Place to design the website to tie in with their exhibition stand that we had previously produced. We worked closely with Wirebox to develop the site. The V&A are very happy with the site and asked us to develop a sophisticated CMS to allow them to update it themselves.
One nice feature of the site is the gallery section for each V&A product. It features a javascript jquery gallery called galleriffic.
It has a slideshow feature and being non flash works on an iPhone and iPad. Check it out.

TUI REPRESENTATIVES AREA
We were asked to design three different sales representatives area kits, each kit to contain furniture, printed carpeting, and graphics. We designed and produced a unique graphic wall for the larger areas and used off the shelf display stands for the smaller areas. Seating areas were built to our design and specification. These kits were sent to various destinations around the World and met the tight and stringent delivery deadline.
